Sister Cities |
Kakegawa City enjoys exchanges with two sister cities in the USA.
Sister-city relationships were formed between the old Kakegawa City and Eugene, Oregon in 1979, and the old Osuka Town and Corning, New York in 1990.

Eugene is the 2nd largest city in the state of Oregon with a population of 140,000. It is known as the home of jogging and as a lumber trading center. It is home to the prestigious University of Oregon which has many Japanese students. The university boasts a learning environment and facilities among the best in the state and many of its categories score highly in the national university rankings. The city's motto is 'The World's Greatest City of the Arts and Outdoors' and surrounded by nature one can enjoy activities such as camping, fishing, rafting and rock-climbing. Corning (New York, USA) |
Corning is located in Steuben County in the western area of NY state, which lies on the border with Pennsylvania. Industry is centered around the glass-making segment of the company Corning Inc. The neighboring Corning Museum of Glass boasts the world's largest collection of glass - around 45,000 items, and recieves around 300,000 visitors annually. Corning Inc. was established on 1851 and has a history of over 150 years. The company continues to attract the world's attention, leading the way in a variety of cutting edge technical innovations such as the bulb shaped glass encasement for Edison's light bulb, the utilization of optical fiber and presently the research and development of the glass used in liquid crystal displays.
